FAQS before and after your cryotherapy

Cryotherapy involves exposing the body to extremely cold temperatures to promote healing, reduce inflammation, and alleviate pain.

Once you step inside our cryo-chambers, you can expect sub-zero dry air to be blasted through vents, of temperatures between -85°C and -110°C, working to catalyse the body’s natural healing processes, enhancing recovery and cellular function.

Our spacious single-user chambers are designed for comfort and movement, allowing you to enhance circulation as needed, and via a window, our team can constantly monitor you throughout, ensuring support is always readily available.

Cryotherapy involves exposing the body to extremely cold temperatures to promote healing, reduce inflammation, and alleviate pain.

We allocate a total of 15 minutes for your treatment, however, you’re only in the chamber for three minutes: the optimal time needed to trigger the right cold shock response in the body and catalyse the effects and benefits.

Maximum benefit is derived from exposing as much bare flesh as possible, causing the best even skin temperature drop in as little time as possible. So ideally, we recommend wearing as little as possible, such as swimwear, shorts or sports bras. 

We’ll provide you with a robe if you prefer extra coverage. 

We’ll also provide you with a headband, socks, slippers and gloves to use during your Cryotherapy session, these will be returned after use and cleaned for the next client.

You’ll be advised to remove any jewellery or body piercings that won’t be covered by protection (ie: necklaces, bracelets, ankle jewellery etc.)

Please also ensure your lips and skin are clean and free of products or gloss (that could freeze when you’re in the chamber!)  We’ll have an amenity kit you can use if you need to remove anything when you arrive.

Whilst there are risks associated with exposure to low temperatures such as frostbite and burns, we provide protective equipment to cover specific parts of your body, and we will also monitor your therapy to ensure everything is safe. If, for any reason, you find the therapy painful, we can stop and assess any issues before continuing or adjusting the treatment.

Whole Body Cryotherapy lasts for roughly 15 minutes with 3 mins within the chamber. We recommend ten minutes of light exercise/walk post cryotherapy, which will induce more rapid vasodilation of the blood vessels and capillaries and extend the period of analgesia. It is also ideal post-workout to speed athletic recovery and ease sore muscles.

Anyone of any age who wishes to reduce inflammation in the body can benefit from cryotherapy.

Children under 18 must have written consent from a parent or guardian and must be accompanied by that guardian during the session.

Whilst cryotherapy can be beneficial to everyone, if you are unsure or have a high health risk or a severe medical condition, you should seek medical advice. Additionally, the following conditions should be medically advised before booking:

Very High Blood Pressure

Very Low Blood Pressure

Cold-Activated Asthma

Cryotherapy involves dry, hyper-cooled air flowing over the skin’s surface, so the process never freezes skin tissues, muscles or organs. Cryotherapy does not reduce core temperature, and as such, it is unusual to shiver in the chamber.

The result is only a “feeling” of being cold. It stimulates the body to release endorphins, the hormones that make us feel alert and energetic.

After effects include skin tightness, boosted energy and increased metabolism, which may make you feel naturally warmer for longer as skin temperatures are regained.

You were only in the chamber for three minutes, but we hope you immediately started to feel the power of the therapy: alert, refreshed and flushed with endorphins, and completely energised to help boost your performance and supercharge your day with whatever comes next.
 
And remember: your metabolism will be considerably higher for a period of time after your treatment, so you’ll be able to burn additional calories if you choose to exercise straight away. Bonus!

All Biowell treatments are best enjoyed as a result of a regular routine. Single treatments can be taken, but we recommend doing Whole Body Cryotherapy three to five times a week for the first two weeks for maximum benefit. This will induce the desired effects in the body and then you should maintain use regularly afterwards.

Our qualified team can also advise and assist those in training or with specific requirements for whom a double session (where cryotherapy is delivered more than once a day) may be best for optimised outcomes.

There is no limit to how many sessions you can have, but it is advised not to have more than two every day.
